Yoga is well known as a therapeutic movement cultivating strength and flexibility. This movement is a part of a larger system of Self-realization, similar to what might be called life coaching or health coaching today. Yoga Therapy is the ancient science of using your own abilities to effect your overall wellbeing and realigning your consciousness to lasting happiness and fulfillment. Yoga therapy coaches, or guides your awareness towards the pillars of health : restorative rest, appropriate nutrition, joyful movement, and quiet mind. This traditional holistic healthcare acknowledges and honors the complexity of this human experience, what happens in the mind affects the body and what happens in the body affects the mind. Yoga therapy is a process that works body to mind and mind to body, in this way Yoga therapy is able to create lasting change by addressing root causes and orienting both your body and mind to harmony, balance and fulfillment. Yoga Therapy applies the ancient holistic wisdom of yoga to your daily life, one simple step at a time. The simple practical application of daily care for your body, mind and spirit has a profound effect on your ability to cultivate resilience and thrive in this tumultuous time.

Anxiety and trauma related disorders are some of the most common difficulties facing people all over the world today. These challenges are particularly prevalent here in the united states, conventional treatment usually includes both pharmacology and psychotherapy. There is worldwide research and growing evidence of the value of Yoga Therapy in decreasing the symptoms of a variety of anxiety disorders from Generalized Anxiety Disorder to PTSD. I spent many years studying, developing, and teaching trauma sensitive yoga for people seeking recovery from addiction. The techniques that I use in my practice today are borne from that experience and my own witnessing of the life changing effects of the practical tools of Yoga Therapy.
Stress reduction/resilience building
A little bit of stress is a good thing (we need resistance to build muscle, and character), too much stress is deadly. We live in a society that places a high value on production, which leaves little time for decompression and relaxation. Through simple, practical, tools, it is possible to re-teach both your body and mind to relax and unwind. These are vital skills to preserving your vitality and joy so that you can appreciate and enjoy the life that you work very hard to provide for yourself and your loved ones. Yoga Therapy is a highly individualized process that utilizes practical tools (food, movement, mindset, lifestyle) as medicine. Yoga Therapy for stress reductions begins with the areas of your life that are causing you the most stress (work, sleep deprivation, etc) and builds the foundation of your resilience.
Menopause (peri and post)
Did you know that Pilot Whales, Orca Whales and Humans are the only animals that continue to live and thrive after they lose the ability to reproduce? Menopause is a sacred and special time of life that can begin as early as 35 years old. Yoga Therapy provides a holistic path to remaining present through this transitional period of life. Menopause is often treated as a time to grin and bear it until it’s over, this attitude does a disservice to one of the greatest opportunities that we have for spiritual growth. During menopause, many things that have been put off until our later in our bodies and minds become fully, unavoidably present. Yoga Therapy works body to mind and mind to body to process and release what is no longer needed, with gentle support alleviating the discomfort of change and growth. Depending on the severity of your discomfort and symptoms, herbs may be used, please be prepared to consult your primary healthcare provider if you are currently taking pharmaceutical medications or hormone replacement therapy.
